I opened a small tackle store about a month ago stocking items used in the St Lucia area and business is steadily picking up.

Fortunately, we had 40ml of early season rain which gave a boost to the lake mouth which is still open. Although it is about 1,7 metres deep it is only 50 metres wide which is not enough to drive large volumes of sea water into the estuary. However, with the rainy season due to commence shortly and a forecast that this will be a wet summer one can only hope that a good surge of water will widen the mouth to 0,5 km which was the width in the old days.

Some perch have been taken on fly at the mouth and shad up at Vidal, but the shad season will close at the end of the month. Unfortunately, the area around Mission Rocks and Vidal has become very sanded up making it difficult to get a fly, lure or bait well out although one can always pick up 3 spots in the channels close to the shore.
