We had plenty of rain in December and the estuaries flooded but there was no damage and after a drier January and early Feb they are looking really good with clean blue/green water. In fact, Feb is one of our peak months for fly fishing if the water is clear but most anglers are back at work and stuck in their offices and homes. Those who have been out have been rewarded. Skipjack have been caught at Gonubie and kob and small kingfish are around in all estuaries, but it is also an excellent month for grunter. The most popular fly at present is the Clouser or similar patterns. Small hook sizes for grunter and larger sizes for the other species.
