| STUTTERHEIM Rodney and Robin, the bailiff, fished Gubu last Friday evening and both caught a very nice fish of 1,2 kg and above in beautiful condition. The dam has dropped several metres because of the drought but this has made bank angling much easier so they expect a very good spring period. At the moment the fish are feeding heavily on what the locals call a ‘flathead bully' which does not appear to be listed in Skelton. Rodney advises that there are sufficient funds for a thorough stocking in November with some money left over for improvements on the clubhouse. For more information on the club phone Rodney Webb at 043 7402032. KINGWILLIAMSTOWN. There has not been much fishing done recently and we have not seen many of the browns which were stocked a couple of months ago. In September we will be stocking with rainbow fingerlings so it is fairly certain that we will have sufficient catchable fish from next year onwards. Luckily, unlike many dams in the Eastern Cape, Maden is nice and full. Dean Stoltz, the current chairman, will be taking some of the members to Maden for a clinic later this month or early September. Depending on the interest he might organise a small competition later in the year which will be open for the public. The club shack at the dam is available to visitors at a cost of R40 per night while club members pay R10. The club (FAS), the oldest trout fishing club in the country is still looking for more members. If you are interested please phone Dean at 082 6262118 or 043 7265133 (office). |
