We experienced some of the coldest weather with snow on the Outeniqua mountains. We also had some good rains, but not enough to keep the Touw River open for more than a few days. This allowed fresh seawater to enter the estuary and made it possible for some of the fish that were trapped to escape out to sea. I tried to catch some leeries in Knysna lagoon early one morning but was not even rewarded with a chase. Not many fly anglers are out trying to catch and most of us are waiting for summer before we venture out on the water. We have been promised some good rains for September and we look forward to the time when we can once again report on some good fly fishing in the Garden Route.
