Unless it rains soon the best bet is probably to try for yellows in the Kraai from Barkley downstream and in fact once the water temperatures rise yellowfishing in this river with its big pools can be very productive. For Stillwater fishers both the lake up at Tiffendell and Basie Vosloo's dam are worth a visit. LADY GREY It has been a very dry winter and the Karringmelk is very low at the moment. At least there are some large pools on this stream and the fish population is quite high at the moment. Therefore, when the season opens on Sept 1 it is a matter of concentrating on the pools or waiting for the first good rains. MACLEAR/UGIE At the moment the rivers are low as there has been no winter rain to speak of and very little snow. However, the middle and lower waters of the bigger rivers like the Pot which are often discoloured during summer will be very fishable when the season opens on Sept 1. In fact if there is no rain before the long weekend these will probably be the waters used during the popular Ladies Fly Fishing Festival which starts on Sept 24 (see Events section). It is also pleasing to note that the club's relationship with PG Bison has improved and three of their dams are now available to the club and have been stocked. Also stocked recently were the very productive Goosens dams which are now club waters. The Vrederus dams further up the Naude's Pass have also fished well recently. Lastly, it should be noted that until the rains start there might be restricted access to certain forested areas due to the fire hazard. |
